The Balancing Act
The Balancing Act is a community-based balance class that addresses the addresses preventing the first fall as people age. The class focuses on building strength to perform functional tasks well such as getting up from the floor, negotiating over and around obstacles and recovering balance from a stumble.
The Balancing Act classes are designed to gradually improve strength and balance to avoid falls and allow seniors to remain independent.
This program is safe for those who have not been exercising regularly. There is a gradual progression in difficulty that is followed to build a foundation of strength before the more advanced activities are performed.

Who Can Benefit from improving their balance?
- Women and Men aged 60 - 75
- Individuals who are worried they might fall even though they haven't fallen yet as well as individuals who have previously fallen and do not want to fall again
- Individuals who value their quality of life and want to remain independent so they can enjoy the golden years
- Individuals who have become less confident of their leg strength and balance (preventing falls is a very important part of fracture prevention)
The Balancing Act Can Provide:
- Fall and Fracture Prevention
- Ability to arise from a chair without the help of your hands
- Ability to slowly lower into a chair, without “chair-plopping”
- Ability to get up and down from the floor
- Ability to stand on one leg for 30 seconds without using your hands to help stabilize
